169th Fighter Group ANG McEntire ANGB, South Carolina F-16C/D, C-130H 157th Fighter Squadron

The 157th FS is the group's flying unit and has operated the F-16C since 1994, with a C-130H support. The unit was formed as the 157th Fighter Squadron in December 1946 with the P-51D. The squadron was called to active duty in October 1950 and redesignated 157th TRS with RF-51Ds. The 157th converted to RF-80As in 1951 and deployed to Moron AB, Spain until returned to state control in July 1952. The unit was redesignated 157th FIS with F-51Hs and added a mix of F-86As until January 1955, when it re-equipped with F-80Cs. The 169th FIG was formed in September 1957. Aircraft type changed to the F-86L in mid-1958 and the F-104A in February 1960. The unit was mobilized from November 1961 to August 1962 and deployed to Ramstein AB, Germany. F-102As were assigned from early 1963 until April 1975, when the squadron converted to A-7Ds and became the 157th TFS. The unit became the first ANG F-16A squadron when it converted from the A-7D in July 1983. The squadron was called to active duty in December 1990 and deployed to Al Kharj, Saudi Arabia for Desert Storm.
